Remix 3D retirement

Microsoft retired the Remix3D.com site on January 10th, 2020.

There are a number of alternate content sharing options available today. OneDrive represents the ideal platform for sharing your 3D models, and it offers additional tools, permission settings, and security to help protect your data and content. With the retirement of the Remix3D.com site, we hope to streamline our offerings in this space and provide you with a more cohesive experience.

We appreciate your patronage of our service.

No. The ability to insert 3D models, either user generated or those provided by Microsoft, into Paint 3D, 3D Viewer, 3D Builder and Photos as well as into PowerPoint, Word, Excel and Outlook is not affected. Microsoft is committed to providing users with high quality 3D models, which customers can use to further enhance their own content. See Get creative with 3D models as well as Paint 3D support to explore help topics and learn the basics.

Here is the timeline we followed to retire the Remix3D.com service:

[July 10th, 2019] — Users were informed that the Remix3D.com site would be retired as of January 10th, 2020. We advised all users to take action and download their existing Remix3D.com 3D models to other file storage and sharing platforms as soon as possible, as Remix3D.com would no longer be available after January 10th, 2020.

[August 7th, 2019] — Uploads of new 3D models to the Remix3D.com site were disabled. As an alternative, OneDrive can be used for sharing 3D models. Remix3D.com users were able to access existing published 3D models until the site was retired on January 10th, 2020.

Additionally, we released an update, so Remix3D.com users would no longer be able to log into their Remix3D.com account from Paint 3D, 3D Builder and Photos nor from PowerPoint, Word, Excel and Outlook. However, customers can still continue to insert 3D models in these applications.

[January 10th, 2020] — The Remix3D.com site and all of its content was officially retired. All links to Remix3D.com stopped working after this date.

You can use OneDrive to share files, photos, Microsoft Office documents, and entire folders with people. The files and folders you store in OneDrive are private until you decide to share them, and you can stop sharing at any time. To learn more, go to Share OneDrive files and folders.

Microsoft deleted all user-generated 3D models and associated metadata from its systems, and users are no longer able to download or request a copy of them from Microsoft.
